Exhale. Today has been somewhat trying and it's only 2:20 p.m. Things actually started out fine. After a decent night's sleep, Kieran woke to nurse at 6:00 then went back to sleep until after 8:00 (when he was awakened by the drilling on the roof. Strike One). Lucas brought me coffee in bed, then brought Kieran over to hang with me until I got up.
Breakfast went smoothly, then I worked on some scrapping while Kieran played, then went to put some handwashing to soak. That's when I discovered that the hot water was out again. As part of the work on the roof the ventilation exhaust is being replaced, so the heating system gets turned off for safety. Makes sense, except that no one informed us it would happen. But I learned from yesterday's experience that it would be back eventually, so no biggie right? Except that today the heater kept flashing F2 and wouldn't stay on. Strike Two. Oh and by the way, have I showered yet? Um, no.
Fast forward to lunch time, I realise that there has been constant drilling for about an hour. Kieran really hates the sound of drilling, it scares him, so halfway through his lunch he couldn't stand it any more and starts to cry. I sit him on my lap to finish eating while Lucas goes up to ask them how long it would continue, since his nap is right after lunch. He comes back to say that they didn't speak French, but he understood there would be drilling for another hour. Strike Three. No way baby boy would fall asleep in that racket so we decide the best thing to do is to go out until they are done (and hey, maybe for the first time in his life he'll fall asleep in the stroller!)
As we're getting ready to leave I notice that I haven't heard drilling or hammering for about 10 minutes. Lucas goes back up. Oh they are all done now. Halleluliah! I unbuckle Kieran from the stroller (poor kid must be really wondering what his crazy parents are up to now), kiss Lucas goodbyeI and head to put him down. Kid was so tired he zonked out in five minutes flat! Huge sigh of relief. Now just to wonder how long the nap will last!
I know that in the bigger scheme of things, this is all nothing major, but for some reason today it all got on my last nerve. Probably because it's Friday, and I'm tired and I was expecting a pretty smooth running day. I have to say I am feeling better now that I just sent it all out in cyber space though. Plus I had to give you a good reason why I'm not posting my April Goals and Plans page today.
And no, I still haven't showered and I can't find my glasses!
