I've seen these chunky crayons on sale on Etsy and wanted to try making some for Kieran. He has been using regular crayons, but they keep getting broken as he figures out the best way to hold them and how much pressure to apply. Recently I came across a couple of tutorials on line, and that finally gave me the push to get them done. Hubby said I could use his precious canelé silicone baking tray (his exact words were "anything for my son") so off I went!
It's pretty simple:
- Peel and break crayons
- Separate into colour groups
- Pop into silicone tray
- Melt in oven on low to moderate heat
- Allow to cool
- Pop out of tray.
- Cut off sharp bits if neccessary
- Let toddler have at it
Voila! No more breaking crayons. But he does still try to eat them!
