Sometime last year on the recommendation of my friend Amy, I bought and read The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield. In the book Pressfield, the author of The Legend of Bagger Vance
, explores the struggle faced by artists (e.g. writers, painters, photographers and yes scrapbookers) in doing their work. He talks about the idea of resistance (think procrastination) and how it stops us from doing the work we want, even need, to do.
Raise your hand if you're guilty. I sure am. And even after reading the book I did nothing. But this is the year of action. And this past week I kept coming across references to Stephen Pressfield everywhere. Nat talked about the book in her video for the Creative Jumpstart Summit. Ali Edwards tweeted a link to an article which mentioned Pressfiled again. Then I followed another link to a visual representation of the book by Sunni Brown
Alright! Enough! I get it! It's time for me to pick the book back up again, and not just read it but apply the principles. Because yes, Pressfield does give us ideas on how we can fight against the resistance, and what happens when we do.
I highly recommend this book if you find yourself struggling with doing the work. Doing your work.
