This past weekend was the annual Wine Fair that we love (website is in French only, sorry). It's put on by an association of independent wine makers, that is wine makers who grow the grapes, make the wine and bottle it all themselves. This is the time of year that we restock our wine cellar. To help you understand the importance of wine in this house, this salon to Lucas is like a scrapbooking convention for us! Wine is his passion, something passed down from his dad, the consummate connoisseur.
Before I met Lucas and moved to France I wasn't much of a wine drinker, when I did indulge it was usually sweet white wines. Very rarely would I drink a dry white, and as for reds, I pretty much couldn't stand them! But in order to marry Lucas I didn't have a choice, it was part of the deal - he agreed to do all the cooking if I agreed to learn to appreciate wine. I'd say I won out on that one!
Over the last five years my appreciation for wine has grown by leaps and bounds, it really helps to have a personal oenologist guiding you. I now prefer reds to whites, I totally get that reds are more "interesting", and I can now tell what wine will complement a meal and vice versa. The first time we went to the wine fair Lucas taught me how to taste a young wine and have an idea whether it will be better or not in the years to come. I still have a lot to learn though. Unlike him, I can't taste an unknown wine and have an idea of what region it comes from. But I'll get there eventually!
I did this page as a tribute to Lucas and all I've learned.
And in case you're wondering, I didn't go to the fair this year. Since drinking is now off limits for me I knew it would be sheer torture!
If you've scrapped a page about your or a loved one's passion, feel free to share with us in the comments!
