I don't remember where I first learned to make these frames, it was quite a while back. I originally gave one to Lucas with a photo of us two for his desk at work, and decided it was time he got a new one with a family photo.
To make the frame you will need:
Wallet sized photo
Patterned Paper
Letter Stickers
Heart punch or die
Butterfly punch or die
Sequin
Digital Phrase or stamp
Empty CD case
Sewing Machine
Ink
(Note: I used a word art brush from this kit by Karla Dudley, and my papers and embellishments came from the June Little Black Dress Kit.)
1. Cut a piece of patterned paper to fit the CD case, mine worked out to 4.5"x5" which is probably standard.
2. Re-size your digital phrase to make sure it fits the patterned paper, and print it onto regular printer paper. Be sure to mark which end is the top of your paper when it is in the printer tray. Trust me on this!
Use temporary adhesive to stick your patterned paper piece over the printed out phrase
Run this through the printer again
use your sewing machine to stitch around the edges of paper
Mat your photo with a coordinating piece of paper
Add to background and use stickers to place the word Family along the left edge of photo. Punch or die cut three small hearts (or the number of people in your photo) and add to top right.
Punch or die cut a butterfly shape and add a sequin (or more). Place as shown.
And there you have it! In order to make the case stand as a frame, you need to separate the two pieces, and put them back together the wrong way, so that the case doesn't close, but stands as a frame.
This is a simple but lovely gift to make!
